Last night I attended an awesome event at YouTube LA! What an amazing facility and organization. Youtubers have a top-notch, pro-grade resource right at their fingertips. Depending on your number of followers you have days where you can use their facility for free. There are also free classes and seminars. Our event was held by the Television Academy and Golin Marketing and the topic, Creating Content for Kids. Aside from my auditions and jobs, this is my next area of focus. Oh, and check out YouTube this Sunday where they will host/stream their own halftime show!YouTube2

Awarding an Emmy

Emmy Awards

Emmy Awards

This past weekend I had the honor of awarding 2 Emmy Awards for individual achievement in Character Design & Animation. Unlike other Emmys awarded, these awards are given by a juried panel of your peers. There is no blind ballot. This panel of people, sit and review and discuss every nominee’s work. Trust me, sometimes these discussions can get quite heated. In my years of doing this, I have seen awards given and taken away by passionate pleas. In any case, to win an award by a juried panel is really difficult. It’s also an award to be truly valued. Hey, your work just unanimously won over a room full of your peers. That’s saying a lot.

I also had the opportunity of judging the Voice Over and Narration categories and narrowing them down to the final 5 nominees in each. OY! Was that a long day!!! There were 94 submissions for vo alone. Now, I love cartoons and I could watch for hours. However, hours and hours and hours….I seriously needed better seating, like a barca lounger and popcorn or licorice. Maybe some M&Ms and junior mints would have helped. That was grueling. However, the cream always does rise to the top. In this case it was a blind ballot and I am very excited for our top 5 nominees in both categories.

And this coming weekend I will be sent 5 dvds for 2 more categories. These are the final 5 nominees and a blind ballot. I will cast my vote for who I think should win the Emmy. The majority vote will determine the winner and he/she or show will be announced at the Emmy Awards.

It’s a big time commitment to judge these awards and it’s all done on a volunteer basis. I have to admit, it is fun when the winner says, “I want to thank the Academy.” Sometimes I sit there and secretly whisper, “You’re welcome.”

Last night, The Telelvision Academy threw a party for all the nominees in Daytime Programing and Animation. The activities committee along with the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, put on a very elegant evening, and it was great to see old friends and make new ones. Good luck tonight to all the nominees!

Daytime Emmys

Daytime Emmys

As a member of the Television Academy, I vote for the Emmy Awards. As a member of the Animation Peer Group, I spent this last weekend voting on character animation and character design. What great work and an Emmy was awarded! Sadly, we didn’t have many submissions, compared to the body of work that is out there. Daytime animation is not huge, but there is such talent out there, more people should be submitting their work! I think I shall have to go on a, “we want to award your excellence” campaign! (Little known secret, in these categories, more than one Emmy can be awarded!) Here is to great cartoons!!!

Emmy -Mixer

Being a member of the Academy of  Television Arts and Sciences (The TV Academy) really does have it’s perks! Last night we enjoyed an All-Academy Mixer at the lovely Lowes Hotel in Hollywood. What a fun way to catch up with friends in the “Biz”, and make some new ones. No work, just good food, drink, ice cream bar, and a comfortable atmosphere. Next up, holiday parties and the Annie Awards!

Emmy Voting

Saturday I spent the day voting for the Daytime Emmy Awards. I was part of a juried panel that judged Character Animation and Character Design. There are some very talented people out there, whoooweee!!!  My fellow judges are pretty amazing as well. It ‘s fun to be in the company of such talent!

Emmy Judging

Was at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences – the Emmys, this morning, judging the college television awards. I’m not allowed to discuss the categories or winners, but I do have to say, these college kids are extremely talented. Wow! Great stuff in the future.
